Over the years, a child's romantic ideals about death blossom into necrophilia, the study of embalming and the most profound relationship of her life.
Sandra Larson has always been fascinated by the entire sensory experience surrounding death: its touch, smell and look. As a child, she would search out dead animals and perform ritualistic burials. As a young woman, Sandra gets a job at Wallis Funeral Home, first as a general assistant, then progressing to study to become an embalmer. At the funeral home, she begins to take her fascination with death to the next level by becoming a necrophiliac. But she also begins her first ever relationship with Matt, a medical student, with who she is totally open about her necrophilia. He finds this aspect of her compelling. He becomes all consumed with her as she is consumed with dead people. The questions become how far he will take this fascination with her to understand fully what is going through her emotional being, how far she will allow him to go, and how far can her feelings for him extend as a live being.

FR. Julien regarde son père et le monde qui l'entoure. Mais c'est aussi Bernard Dubois, le père qui regarde son fils, qui se revoit à travers lui, qui imagine ses rêves, et rêve sa propre enfance. Julien s'endort après s'être plongé dans la lecture d'un album de Tintin. Le film s'ouvre sur ses rêves. Images de sa croissance, bribes de dialogues. Sa mère est comédienne et doit partir tourner aux Etats-Unis. Mais pour le moment, Julien est a Rome. Nouveau visage, celui d'une fillette en larmes. L'enfant se réveille : songe ou réalité passée ? Il connait enfin ses premières expériences avec l'univers des adultes.
Puzzle d'impressions et de souvenirs à la manière d'un journal intime, "J'ai voulu rire comme les autres" rassemble des images tournées selon les circonstances pendant 7 ans, comme dans un film de famille : le temps de voir l'enfant grandir.

A young family - father and mother with daughter Svetlana - rented a summer cottage for the summer: an old shed in which they had to fix the roof immediately after the move, nail the fence around it, clean and repair something all the time. Their relationship was spoiled because everyone wanted to rest, gather mushrooms, fish and lie on the grass. And then some stranger pilot came to visit mom, and dad and daughter were completely depressed...
